Emigrants - London Bestseller

We're delighted to report that James Evans' wonderfully insightful new book has made it to the top of the Evening Standard London Bestsellers Chart in the first week of publication. Emigrants: Why The English Sailed To The New World is proving hugely popular at public speaking events and appears to resonate particularly strongly with American members of the audience. James' forthcoming appearances include the British Library and Henley Literary Festival, with further talks to be confirmed here on the Wolfsong site soon.

James Evans - Emigrants Book Launch

It was wonderful to see so many of the Wolfsong team out in support at James Evans' book launch on Independence Day. Ash Bhardwaj, Alex Bescoby, Levison Wood and Pip Stewart all joined in the memorable celebrations at Daunt Books on Marylebone High Street in London. Emigrants: Why The English Sailed To The New World, published by W&N, has already received rave reviews in the Spectator and Family Tree magazine, with interviews on BBC Radio 5Live, BBC Radio London and a fascinating History Hit podcast with Dan Snow.

James Evans - Emigrants

In his latest book, historian James Evans tells the fascinating story of the ordinary English men and women who risked crossing the Atlantic in the 17th century to find a better life. Nearly 380,000 made the journey for a multitude of reasons, including religious persecution, loyalty to the King, a bid to find their fortune in the gold, fur or fishing trades, and many simply out of sheer desperation. Considering the population of England was only around five and a half million at the time, this was a staggering number. 'Emigrants: Why The English Sailed To The New World' was published in the UK by Weidenfeld & Nicolson on July 6th. Cover design by Andrew Smith

Following a deal brokered by Wolfsong, Alastair took to the skies for his first taste of gliding and as you can see from the picture, looping the loop. You can watch Al's reaction to the experience here.

The short, fun, accessible outdoor trips he’s made famous through his microadventures have exploded in popularity with the ViewRanger community, which is why we’re so excited to be teaming up for this challenge."
